Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Hi, I am Jasmine Hunt. I am a 27-year-old entrepreneur. I own a home-based bakery, Jassy Sassy Sweets, in South West Fort Worth. I have been in business since May 12th 2016. I love to bake and come up with new and creative ideas for my business. I was kind of thrown into this industry on accident. I will never look back because Jassy Sassy Sweets is the best thing that has ever happened to me!

How did you become a wedding baker?

I did my first official wedding cake in the spring of 2018. An acquaintance of mine trusted me enough to bake and decorate her wedding cake. I was extremely honored. That started the beginning of the wedding trend! What I love most about my job is being able to express my creativity through the art of food.

What are the most common questions that couples ask you at the first introductory appointment?

The most important things to couples are taste, budget, and skill level for decorating.

Which type of cake design is the most popular for weddings?

This is a hard question to answer in 2019. There are so many cake trends that are floating around on Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook. It honestly depends on the couple. Rather they are traditional, or modern. Traditional cakes with flowers, ribbon, and fine details will probably never go out of style.

Do you have any tips for brides that want to create their own wedding cake?

Wow. This is a crazy question to me. I am currently in the middle of planning my own wedding for October 2019, and I am baking my own wedding cake. I can truly say that if they want to do take on this task themselves, start early. Get as many fine details done way beforehand so that you won't feel rushed in the end.

What are the most creative wedding cake themes?

The most creative wedding cake theme I have seen was a cake that had a display/slideshow of pictures of the couples. The slide show was displayed on an iPad.

What are the typical services/packages offered by wedding bakers?

Wedding cakes can get expensive. So couples should have a realistic budget when doing cake tastings. The average price per person for wedding cakes are $4 per serving. Some bakers/bakeries may offer a dessert buffet for couples to have at their wedding. If couples are only looking for an average size wedding cake is about $400. Dessert buffets can start at $500 and increase well into the thousands.

Which portion of the process keeps you busy the most, and what takes the most energy?

The small details always take the longest. The flowers, hand painting, and perfecting everything to give your client that breathtaking moment. The day of the wedding I normally spend it boxing the cake/cakes for delivery. Then once I arrive at the venue, I am making sure everything looks picture perfect. I am coming over the small details and making sure I get really great shots of the setup.

What was the most memorable wedding you baked?

The most memorable wedding was the dessert buffet I did for an old classmate of mine. The couple had 150 cupcakes, a topper cake, a grooms cake, Oreos, pretzels, and a host of other treats.

Was there ever a time you had to improvise?

Yes! It happens from time to time. Sometimes we as bakers plan every detail out in our head and it doesn't always work out like that.
