Please introduce yourself to our readers.
That's why I offer services that enhance my clients' already beautiful faces, without rendering them unrecognizable.
Hey Girl Hey! My name is Felicia Rand and I am the proud owner of Femme Jolie Eye Design Studio, LLC in Columbus, Ohio. I am a licensed Esthetician with 9 years of experience in the beauty/wedding industry. I specialize in helping women create a soft, natural look while making them feel pretty & pampered. In my many years as an Esthetician, I've come across so many women that have never been shown how to embrace their natural features. That's why I offer services that enhance my clients' already beautiful faces, without rendering them unrecognizable.
How did you become a make-up artist?
I think my absolute favorite aspect of my career is providing whatever, "me time" experience that my client needs.
I've always LOVED makeup. My mother has darker skin than mine, so as a kid I had to get really creative to play in her makeup, lol. She taught me a lot about how to wear makeup, but the one thing that always stuck with me was when she said, " Your goal is for people to tell you that your 'face is pretty' versus saying that your 'makeup looks pretty." I think that's why I am such a fan of a natural but noticeable look.
I think my absolute favorite aspect of my career is providing whatever, "me time" experience that my client needs. Having a client trust me to be a part of her special day, (especially if she didn't know me prior to her wedding) is an absolute honor! However, I'm a nurturer by nature, so it's equally important to be able to provide great experience leading up to her wedding too.
My clients' monthly pamper sessions are sometimes the only time they can take time just for themselves. Whether its 15 minutes or 2 hours, “me time” always saves the day and the experience means different things to different clients. So my goal with Femme Jolie Eye Design Studio is to create a relaxing, girly, sexy and fun escape for women to truly enjoy their “me time.” We laugh, we cry, we imagine egging the cars of no good exes, praise awesome spouses, clown about crazy family members, discuss the latest trends, celebrate our accomplishments, network within our circle of entrepreneurs, speak life, love and light into our endeavors, gossip about great sex, and rejoice about our babies but most of all we genuinely enjoy just being girls. I mean that's what I want when I get married...(psst...I'm engaged too!)
How would you describe your style?
When it's time to slay, I love a clean, classic look. I typically rely on a combination of contour, highlighting, fabulous lashes and a colorful lip to complete it all. I let my accessories, hair and outfit do the rest.
What are the best makeup products for bridal?
Well, I may be biased but I am a consultant so Mary Kay, of course! Our New Chromafusion line is perfect for brides!!! The eye shadows offer 12 hours of wear time and the hues are rich in pigment. Our blush, highlighter, and contour contain light-reflecting pigments that will deliver natural-looking radiance that lasts! There are so many details to worry about on your wedding day and crying or sweating your makeup off half way through all of the festivities should NOT be one of them.
We also offer an amazing skin care line that delivers a visible improvement of multiple signs of skin aging in just 4 weeks, including:
- Fine Lines/ Wrinkles & Smoothness
- Softness, Resilience, & Luminosity
It also defends against free radicals and delays the look of premature aging with broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Remember, happy healthy skin, makes my job SO much easier when it's time to create your dream wedding face!
What are the basics of applying make-up for a wedding look?
- Make sure to start with a good primer to ensure a smooth surface to apply makeup that will last.
- Use a full coverage concealer for the under eye area.
- Blend foundation to achieve the perfect color and coverage.
- Choose an eye shadow that accentuates your eye color and gives them the perfect, "pop!"
- Lash Out, Girl! Create lashes that make you feel luxurious using a great mascara or lash extensions ( I can help you with both!)
- Add a natural "blush" to those cheeks. Pinks and peaches can give you just the right amount of flush.
- Use a translucent finishing powder to set your makeup for long-lasting wear.
- When in doubt, you can never go wrong with a nude lip. Especially if your shadow is more on the dramatic side...BUT...I am a complete sucker for a red lip so, I'll just leave that right there.
What are some good makeup looks for a daytime wedding?
Daytime weddings mean more natural light so you may want not want to go with heavy coverage.
Daytime weddings mean more natural light so you may want not want to go with heavy coverage. Contour with caution because it will show up heavier and more pronounced during the day. Highlighters and products with a slight shimmer will definitely give you a dazzling effect since the lighting will be working in your favor. Again, you can never go wrong with neutrals...unless you just want a lot of, "Boom Pow" on your wedding day. Consult with your Makeup Artist so that can you plan out your perfect look.
What are the typical services/packages offered by make-up artists?
Packages and prices may vary depending on the artist.
I offer my brides an option to have a FREE makeup consultation with a small group of friends. They can earn some awesome discounts and free gifts!
I also offer FREE wine tastings in which the bride can earn a complimentary bottle of wine!!!
Which portion of the process keeps you busy the most, and what takes the most energy?
Honestly, making sure the bride stays sane and supported! I've stepped out of my MUA role so many times while doing bridal makeup. From playing music (to either match or counteract their energy,) kept them focused on good vibes, became their personal comedian, helped them wiggle into their dresses, even ran to the nearest store to grab a small, but utterly important forgotten item.
What was the most difficult request you have handled?
Thankfully, I've never experienced a "Bridezilla." I think the most difficult scenario I conquered is when the bride (and bridal party) are extremely late to arrive and have multiple faces to do within a time frame that doesn't support it.
Was there ever a time you had to improvise?
Over the years, I have learned to become very flexible so that no matter what the circumstance, the bride is always left feeling pretty and pampered!
Lol, Yes!!! Time restrictions due to tardiness have caused me to prioritize who gets what when it comes to the order of bridesmaids and who gets what. Everyone turned out beautiful and you couldn't tell where we had to cut corners. I've also had to mix foundation/concealer colors in order to get the perfect color. Over the years, I have learned to become very flexible so that no matter what the circumstance, the bride is always left feeling pretty and pampered!
